Registration Requirements

To secure your .ie domain, you will need to prove your connection to Ireland and your claim to your desired domain name. This can be easily done by supplying some documentation.
If you are a company that is based outside of Ireland, you are still welcome to apply for a .ie domain providing you can show you have a connection to Ireland, e.g. – invoices, marketing aimed at Irish audiences, etc.

I want a domain as an individual

If you wish to register a domain for yourself, a blog, personal publication or for a business that you have not yet registered for trading purposes, please follow the below guidelines.

What you need

One proof of identity:

Irish Driver’s License
Irish Passport
Irish Birth Certificate
Irish Marriage Certificate
Irish Utility Bill (Electricity, Gas, Television etc.)
Irish revenue document, social welfare card/document showing pps no.
A copy of an Irish bank statement for personal account (with financial details covered)

If proof of Irish address is not included in any of these documents, then this will have to be provided also, e.g. recent utility bill.

If the domain being requested is not the name on the utility bill supplied (e.g. Johnsmith.ie) then you will need to supply a letter explaining why you are requesting the domain and what the domain name means. An example letter can be found here

This must be signed and sent in with your application.

I am a Sole Trader

If you are a Sole Trader trading under your own name, you can register a domain that reflects that name by submitting your VAT number.

If you are a Sole Trader trading under a business registered with the CRO, you should submit your RBN or Certificate of Registration with your application.

What you need

One of the following:

VAT Number
CRO Number

If proof of Irish address is not included in any of these documents, then this will have to be provided also, e.g. recent utility bill.

If the domain name is not identical to the registered company name, or if it does not clearly reflect the business nature, you will need to supply a signed letter on your business letterhead outlining why you are requesting the domain. i.e. - Joe Bloggs Inc wants the domain “bloggsroofing.ie”. An example letter can be found here

This must be signed and sent in with your application.

I want a domain for a company

If you wish to register a domain for a company, you simply need to supply the CRO or VAT number for the company registered in Ireland.

If you are a Sole Trader trading under a business registered with the CRO, you should submit your RBN or Certificate of Registration with your application.

What you need

One of the following:

VAT Number
CRO Number

If the domain name is not identical to the registered company name, you will need to supply a signed letter on your business letterhead outlining why you are requesting the domain. i.e - Joe Bloggs Inc wants the domain “bloggsroofing.ie”. An example letter can be found here

This must be signed and sent in with your application.

This letter also applies to registering a brand, publication or product that your company is offering.
